Drs. Alice Bouman-Dentener

Alice graduated as a biologist from Utrecht University, the Netherlands. She can pride herself on an outstanding career in the sustainable development field, working with intergovernmental, governmental and non-governmental organizations around the world. In the course of her career, she has developed a focus on water governance, social inclusion and gender.

After lecturing ethology and working for nature conservation in Peru, Alice was research associate, policy advisor, programme manager, CEO and consultant in Egypt, the Netherlands, Tanzania, Myanmar and Brazil, among other countries. Over the years she has proved herself as a strong and strategic development professional with a demonstrated governance proficiency in the non-profit organization management industry. She has organized a great many workshops, symposia and high-level sessions and is much in demand as a speaker and moderator.

Alice has served on a variety of boards and committees, most recently as Vice-Chair and Governance Director of Trade + Impact Association, Chair of the European Water Stewardship Members Council, and Member of the Citizens Commission of World Water Forum 8 and the International Steering Committee of the High-Level International Conferences for the International Decade for Action ‘Water for Sustainable Development’ 2018-2028. She has served the Global Water Partnership Intergovernmental Organization and network (GWP) from 2010 through 2016 as a Steering Committee Member, Vice-Chair and Chair ad interim.

Alice founded the Women for Water Partnership (WfWP) in 2004, which under her Presidency developed into the leading global women’s civil society network in the water domain with a rank and file in nearly 100 countries. When leaving the WfWP in 2014, she was granted the title of Honorary Founding President.

Alice is the Co-Founder of Cansu Global, Vice-President of the Water Research and Training Centre International Foundation (WRTC), Member of the International Steering Committee of the Young Water Solutions Fellowship Programme and Member of the International Advisory Committee of the Dushanbe Process in support of the Water Action Decade 2018 - 2028. She is a longstsanding member of the Advisory Board of Gender Concerns International (GCI).

Alice was proclaimed Action Hero of the United Nations Water for Life Decade in 2015 and Knight in the Order of Orange-Nassau in April 2016. She is the first Laureate of the HRH Prince Mohammad bin King Faisal (I) El-Hashemite Award for gamechanging contributions to sustaianble development.
